ELIXHER Launches New Brunch For Women Who Love Women
Queer women of color site hosts second Sundays soiree
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - On Sunday, June 10, ELIXHER will kick off SummHer, a monthly brunch with a Brooklyn twist. The event will take place at Beso, 370 Lewis Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y., 12 - 3 p.m., and will feature music by DJ Mursi Layne, unlimited mimosas, an outdoor bar and beautiful women. The event is open to the public and costs $25 for an entrée and bottomless beverages.
“ELIXHER readers have been demanding a monthly event and I don’t blame them,” says creator Kimberley McLeod. “I love the women ELIXHER brings together-the vibe and energy is unlike anything I’ve experienced.”
Founded in 2011, ELIXHER has served as an online destination for Black lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) women. The site has become a staple for smart, empowering and authentic content. ELIXHER is proud to say that by sharing stories in columns like “InspiHERed By” which spotlights phenomenal women in the Black queer community and “Our Family” which celebrates two-mommy families, it has brought the world closer to recognizing our magic and multifacetedness.
“Since our launch in March 2011, we’ve grown immensely thanks to our loyal readers,” McLeod continues. “The next logical step is hosting events that reflect the affirming content that lives on the website.”
At the core of ELIXHER is substantive stories that tells our truths and elevates our spirits. With a fast-growing team of talented women, ELIXHER has published over 300 articles. ELIXHER has also had the opportunity to connect with amazing women like Pariah stars Adepero Oduye and Kim Wayans, trans advocate Janet Mock, America’s Next Top Model contestant Isis King, trans advocate Laverne Cox, The Real L Word’s Saj Golde, and many more.
“SummHer will be an opportunity for women to gather in a safe space, share conversation and laughs and groove,” adds McLeod. “There are few events that allow us to do that. “
